IHSA Update

At the beginning of January,  we officially launched the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA).  It was formed from the merger of three organizations:  the Electrical & Utilities Safety Association of Ontario (E&USA), the Construction Safety Association of Ontario (CSAO), and the Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario (THSAO).

In an update message to IHSA's clients, President and CEO Michael Delisle outlines IHSA's plans for becoming more customer focused through engagement with clients and an emphasis on frontline service.  To view the Member Update.  Click here.

Notice:  IHSA Update electrical stream membership certificate change

As you know the Electrical & Utilities Safety Association is now the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association.

IHSA began operations as of January 1, 2010.  The organization was created as the result of the amalgamation of the Construction Safety Association of Ontario (CSAO), the Electrical and Utilities Safety Association of Ontario (E&USA) and the Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario (THSAO).

In the past, membership certificates and annual stickers, which were affixed to those certificates, were mailed to member firms.

In an effort to provide members with more efficient access to their information, this practice has now changed.  Members wishing to receive a certificate are encouraged to contact our Service Excellence Administrator at 905-212-7935 or email Jocelyn Rosos and a certificate will be sent to you via email in a PDF file.

MOL Blitz - Forklifts and Lifting Devices

During February, there will be a Ministry of Labour (MOL) blitz on hazards related to forklifts and lifting devices.  Inspectors will also conduct after-hours (evening) and weekend field visits during this blitz.

Inspectors will focus on the adequacy of training and education of workers and supervisors involved in the operation of forklifts and lifting devices.  There will be an emphasis on providing a safe work environment, including pedestrian traffic, walkways, appropriate access and egress to and from work areas, barriers and warning signs, and the provision of signallers where required.  Inspectors will also check on the suitability of the equipment and any attachments being used and ensure they are being maintained in good condition.  Forklift/lifting-device-related policies and programs, including emergency procedures, may also be reviewed.

Inspectors will ensure that Health and Safety Representatives or Joint Health and Safety Committees are in place where appropriate and that they are functioning as required.

The MOL's website, www.labour.gov.on.ca , will include more information shortly.
